Travel Itinerary for Solos
It doesn’t matter whether you’re a nocturnal possum or a daylight-lovin’ show pony, there’s something for every party animal this close to the city.
One thing you must do is go for a walk through Kings Cross. This colourful bohemian playground is home to multimillion-dollar apartments, sports cars and some of Sydney’s best restaurants. It’s also home to strip joints, backpacker bars and burlesque shows. Never boring, never asleep; Kings Cross is a sensory overload that will rock your socks off. Enjoy a glass of wine and a cheese platter in the quirky surrounds of the Gazebo Wine Garden or discover the laneway delights of Time to Vino. Fulfil your Italian cravings at Mezzaluna or head to Fratelli Paradiso for seasonal delights with a European bent.
Sunny days are perfect for exploring the harbourside areas around the hotel. If you’re feeling perky, go for a run through Potts Point and Woolloomooloo to the Royal Botanic Gardens. Jog under a canopy of fruit bats in the rainforest gully and loop back via Mrs Macquarie’s Chair to take in Sydney Harbour from its most striking angle. Swing back via Andrew ‘Boy’ Charlton Pool to cool down with a dip overlooking Woolloomooloo Wharf. This iconic route features plenty of eye candy of both the human and scenery variety! Hungry? Head up to Victoria Rd and hoe into a schnitzel at Una’s. The waiters wear lederhosen so it’s worth a visit just for the spectacle of seeing German national dress in real life. Fancy something a bit lighter? The Tropicana Cafe is an institution. It’s where the world’s largest short film festival TropFest began but it’s also famous for its enormous salads.
Sydney is a high velocity town so if you’re planning to stick around, you’re going to need some down time. De-stress with Kirtan chanting or a yoga class at Govinda’s and then, when you’re done, head upstairs for a delicious vegetarian feast and movie in the opulent cushion room. If spa treatments are more your thing, check out Alkaline in Potts Point. This popular detoxification station offers naturopathy consultations, massages and high tech options like Omnilux and Formostar.
