Travel Itinerary for Families
Remember what it was like when you stayed in a hotel as a kid? It was so exciting – you felt so grown up! Embrace the magic of the city by going on family-friendly adventures perfect for children of all ages.
If you’re only in town for the night, you simply must go for a sunset cruise around Sydney Harbour. You and your family can jump on board the famous Manly ferry and take in the Harbour Bridge, Opera House and the Prime Minister’s House at Kirribilli. When you reach Manly, stroll up the Corso, eat fish and chips by the ocean and top it all off with an ice-cream. Little boys (and their Dads) will love a walk down to Woolloomooloo to see the Navy ships and little girls will love a mother-daughter shop-a-thon at one of the biggest shopping centres in Australia, Westfield Bondi Junction. Or, on a saturday pop in to Paddington Markets on Oxford Street for something to keep the whole family entertained, there’s even a playground. Plus, everyone will love watching the super luxury yachts bobbing in their berths at the Cruising Yacht Club (CYCA) which is just outside the hotel – a delightful stroll (or rumble) through the leafy Rushcutters Park. If you want to relax closer to home, splash about in the hotel’s rooftop pool with stunning views over Rushcutters Bay or let your competitive streak out in Vibe’s curve cafe + bar with free sessions in the Wii Arena – plus there are plenty of yummy snacks and drinks to refuel!
For a local perspective of the east, where Vibe Hotel Rushcutters is housed, head towards Watsons Bay and burn some energy hiking along the cliffs at The Gap. Pop down to Doyles for some fish and chips while taking in the beauty of the beach. Prefer something a little more chilled out? Explore the historical beauty of Vaucluse House and cool your heels over a refined, yet relaxed high tea in the cafe while the kids explore the expansive garden surrounds. Take time out by the water at Rose Bay Wharf and marvel at the multiple sea planes taking off. If you prefer a day out at the beach, head for the glittering waters of Bondi,Bronte or Clovelly, all of which have ocean pools safe for children and mandatory ice-cream outlets! Think of the city as a giant playground. Further afield, kids of all ages love the over-the-top wackiness of Luna Park and close encounters of the furry kind at Taronga Park Zoo. Both of these attractions are accessible by ferry so no need to struggle with traffic or parking – simply hop on board a ferry and sail towards your destination. Ferry too slow? Book in for an adrenaline pumping Harbour Jet boating experience. For the drama queens (and kings) among you, a matinee or a night out at the theatre is in order. The State Theatre and The Capitol Theatre regularly show family friendly classics that everyone will love.
If you have the luxury of time, take in the colour and movement of Chinatown. Take the kids to yum cha at The Marigold, go for a walk through the Chinese Gardens or take in a 3D film on the enormous screen at IMAX at Darling Harbour. For the truly adventurous, why not hop on a Blue Mountains train and head up to Katoomba or Leura for a day of sight seeing, antique shopping, scone scoffing and lolly shop visiting?
