Vibe Hotels supports the Eye Foundation’s julEYE campaign

PRESS RELEASE | 23 June 2009

Did you know eye disease is something that will affect all of us in our lifetime – if we live long enough? Yet 75% of visual impairment is unnecessary – it can be either prevented or treated. That is why Vibe Hotels is a proud supporter of the Eye Foundation’s julEYE campaign. julEYE (formerly July) is an annual charity campaign dedicated to raising awareness and funds for eye health research. According the Eye Foundation, as we continue to live longer we will all have an eye disease in our lifetime. Yet so little is known about eye diseases and what each of us can do to maintain our eye health. Throughout June and July, julEYE merchandise such as lapel pins will be sold at Vibe Hotel receptions and also at Medina Apartment Hotels and Travelodge Hotels . Guests staying with Vibe Hotels will be invited to add $2 or more to their invoice to be donated to the julEYE campaign.

The Eye Foundation is asking Australians to use their wit and imagination to fundraise for eye health during July in a fun and poignant campaign called What would you pay to see? The month-long “julEYE” initiative is now live online at www.whatwouldyoupaytosee.com.au . julEYE is the month when individuals and teams from all around Australia will be getting away with almost anything, all in the name of charity.

Rachel Argaman, CEO, Toga Hospitality said, “ Vibe Hotels are proud to be supporting the Eye Foundation’s julEYE fundraising campaign. Helping out is easy – guests staying at any Vibe Hotel can choose to purchase julEYE merchandise or have a donation added to their invoice for their stay. We look forward to helping the Eye Foundation attain their fundraising goals for 2009.”

Despite the common perception vision loss is not restricted to the aging and can strike at any point in life. Kirk Pengilly (an Eye Foundation ambassador) was in his 20s and touring with INXS when he was diagnosed with severe glaucoma, nearly losing his sight.

30% of children suffer from some form of visual impairment. The impact of low vision and blindness is greater than the disability burden for breast cancer, prostate cancer, melanoma and HIV/AIDS. julEYE funds crucial research into the causes, preventions and cures of eye disease with the vision of giving every Australian every opportunity to see. In 2008, the campaign raised $640,000 towards eye health research.

Vibe Hotels can be found across Sydney , Melbourne , Darwin and the Gold Coast . Each hotel is an expression of the city village in which it is located and reflects the local surrounds from beach-chic to city-slick or urban-cool, allowing travellers to experience and absorb the essence of the destination.
